Subject: Heart Park Update - April 2008

Hello everyone,

There is so much going on I don't know where to begin, but I'll start with the short notice of my presentation tomorrow night to the Recreation and Parks Commission, Wednesday the 9th, at 7 p.m., at City Hall in Redondo Beach (415 Diamond St.) - in the Council chambers.  My presentation will begin at 7:05 sharp, and you'll be out of there by 7:30.  If you want to learn more about our project and where we are with it, please stop by.  Actually, feel free to call me anytime at the number below if you have questions.

Also, this year's Earth Day is Saturday, April 19th.  We will have booths both at the SeaLab (10-3) and Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach (11-4).  Attached is a photo of us at our inaugural Earth Day event 3 years ago.

More on this later, but put April 24th on your calendar to hear representatives from the State Coastal Conservancy and some of the consultants they've hired speak to the work they are doing on our project.  Its unfortunate that Redondo Beach is mired in a lawsuit with AES at the moment, and it looks to go on for some time, but this has not deterred us or other local leaders from pursuing this project.  Come hear about the work and money the State is spending to bring us a beautiful waterfront park for everyone to enjoy for generations to come.

Finally, read below about a cool new organization set-up by a local Redondo resident, Kathleen Jacecko, to teach all of us how to reduce the impact our daily habits have on the environment.  Its pretty amazing what a huge impact we can make by collectively changing little things that we do.  Take just a moment to get on her e-newsletter.

I hope everyone is having a great start to spring in the South Bay.  We at the South Bay Parkland Conservancy look forward to seeing you tomorrow night, at one of our Earth Day booths, or especially at the April 24th event at the Veterans Park Historical Library at 6:30 p.m.  Refreshments will be served.

Bye for now!

The The MetlundŽ Hot Water D'MANDŽ System
The MetlundŽ Hot Water D'MANDŽ System

Are you waiting more than a minute for your water to run hot? Assuming your showerhead delivers 2 gallons/minute and you're waiting 1 minute for the water to heat up every time you take a shower, your shower is sending 730 gallons of perfectly potable water down the drain every year just to heat the water! It doesn't have to be this way.

The MetlundŽ Hot Water D'MANDŽ System delivers hot water to fixtures quickly so you don't have to wait for water to get hot. A pump rapidly pulls hot water from your water heater while simultaneously sending cooled-off water in your hot water lines back to the heater to be reheated. Use the Metlund D'MAND System to get hot water in 15-30 seconds without wasting a single drop and use less than a penny's worth of electricity in the process. The Metlund D'MAND System is recognized by the US Department of Energy to save both water and energy. For more information and to purchase a Metlund D'MAND System, visit www.gothotwater.com.

April 16: Tooling Around Town in (Green) Style
There's a reason cars and trucks are the poster children of environmental destruction: no other single consumer activity causes more environmental harm than personal vehicles. Reducing the impact of getting yourself from here to there is an essential part of greening your life. And with gas approaching $4.00 a gallon, what better time to start than now?

April 22: Helping the Earth with Every Bite
Producing our food takes a surprisingly significant toll on the environment, but it doesn't have to be that way. Thank Mother Earth for her delicious bounty by choosing foods that nourish the body without harming the Earth.

April 30: Your Green Sanctuary...Making your Home a Friend to Mother Nature
Your home represents an amazing opportunity to green your life because most everything involved with running a household affects the environmental in one way or another. Make your home a model of sustainability, inside and out, and give the Joneses something meaningful to keep up with.
