Subject: Heart Park Update - December 2005

Hello Everyone,

It's been an eventful year to say the least!  As it draws to a close, let me thank you for being a SBPC member and/or reading these updates - your support is the reason why the South Bay Parkland Conservancy (SBPC)forges ahead tirelessly to restore this particular area, as well as others, for generations to come.

By any measure, we have had a very successful year overcoming tremendous pressure to build on the waterfront in Redondo Beach - while building a new organization that will serve the entire South Bay.  Thanks to your support, the SBPC and the pro-Heart Park forces were able to accomplish the following:
But even with these accomplishments, our struggle is far from over.  There is still a very old power plant operating infrequently on our coast.  The vote in March was only advisory, and councilmen are being lobbied by the developers to IGNORE the advisory vote and build the condos and hotels anyway, so it's crucial that we continue to show enthusiasm and presence.

All of the South Bay is under relentless pressure to build build build.  We are one of the few organizations that will be fighting for the quality of life issues that brought us all here.  Don't think for a moment that we are 'closing the barn door after the horses have left.'  The congestion and smog are much worse in other parts of the world and will continue to worsen here if the residents allow it.  We must continue our mission to restore areas when possible, and educate the citizens of the need to do so.

But we can only be successful with your support, both moral and financial.  We are a 501(c)(3), fully tax deductible public benefit corporation.  We have no paid staff, but rely on our volunteers and generous contributions from concerned citizens such as you.  As the year comes to a close, please consider a special gift to our local organization that is tax deductible.  This will allow us to continue building awareness and educating the residents through mailings, special events - and fund studies that examine land-use decisions from a quality of life perspective.

2006 will be a critical year for shaping our community - your special gift today will make an enormous difference in promoting our natural legacy for generations to come.

Thank you for your continued support.

Happy Holidays from all the Directors of the SPBC,
