Hello everyone,
This Thursday, June 16th, is an important day for open
space advocates in the South Bay. The Redondo Beach Planning Commission
will be holding a public hearing, (7pm, Council Chambers) to
consider the re-establishment of the zoning that existed prior to the Heart of
the City Specific Plan, and pass this recommendation for final approval to our
City Council before the building moratorium expires September 1st.
This zoning will also 'allow' for parks, reflecting the
success of the Heart Park vision in the March election. So this
hearing is the next step in what the City committed to as a result of the
Heart Park victory.
We need to show our support and appreciation for this
important milestone, so please
try to attend the Planning Commission meeting this Thursday.
It begins at 7:00, but we are item 17, so arriving around 7:30
p.m. should be in plenty of time to be present for the hearing. Here is
the link to the agenda.
Two things need to be accomplished this summer so that we can
continue to build on our momentum, and lay the proper foundation for
restoring this property for public use,
1) We have to re-establish the zoning so that it is
consistent with the general plan of the City and,
2) Our City leaders need to invite the State
Coastal Conservancy to begin assisting us with the analysis and
viability of the site.
Both of these actions are in the process, and Thursday's
hearing is a big step!
There will be a meeting of the South Bay Parkland Conservancy
next Monday, June 20th, at 7 p.m., in the Redondo Room of the Beach Cities
Health District. We will be discussing several issues and planning for
events this summer. The Riviera Village Festival is June 25th
and 26th and we have booth space. So one of the items will be
the set-up and planning for this event.
Hope to see you at one of these events!
Finally, we have mailed our first newsletter out to our SBPC
